1. What is the difference between nQuake2 and Q2Pro?

nQuake2 is a package that includes everything you need to play QuakeWorld. This
includes a client (Q2Pro), custom maps, models, textures and other things that
makes it easier to get started. If you were to download Q2Pro (the Quake 2 client)
individually, you would have to spend several hours downloading extras (maps,
models, textures) before you were able to have anything resembling a modern game.
nQuake2 does this for you.

2. How do I find a server to play on?

If you chose to install start menu items, there is a shortcut called "Server
Browser" in the nQuake2 folder in your start menu. If you didn't install start menu
items, the file is called qsb.exe in your nQuake2 folder (defaults to C:\nQuake2).

Once started, pick a server (preferably with players on it) and double click it.

By default, nQuake2 shows only FFA deathmatch servers in the server browser. To
see other servers, click the "Mod" select field below "Server Filters" and pick
the mod you want to try out. Note that nQuake2 might not support all the mods
listed.

3. What is Action Quake 2?

Action Quake 2 is the grandfather of all modern shooters. It introduced realistic
weapons with weapon clips, kevlar vests, bandages, bleeding wounds, broken legs.
People from the AQ2 development team ended up creating Counter-Strike. The idea was
to create a mod where each bullet counted. Where you had to take cover to reload and
plan your next attack. Where all weapons were equally useful, but for different
situations. AQ2 is usually played in rounds, where you select one primary weapon and
one item at the beginning of the round. When you die, you have to wait until the
next round begins.

3.1 Which are the best AQ2 weapons and items?

In AQ2 there are no "best" weapons. It all depends on the situation. The most used
choice of weapon and item is M4 with a vest. All of the weapons will kill your
opponent if hit in the head. It is difficult to rank the AQ2 weapons since they all
have different uses. You can switch between semi/full automatic modes and short-long
distances depending on what weapon you are using by pressing the mouse2 button.

* The M4 is a high damage, medium accuracy, short-medium distance automatic rifle
  with a 24 round clip.
* The MP5 is a high accuracy, medium-long distance, low damage automatic rifle with
  a 30 round clip.
* The M3 is a medium-high damage, medium accuracy, short-medium distance automatic
shotgun with a 7 round clip that needs to be loaded individually.
* The Hand Cannon is a high damage, low accuracy, short distance sawed-off shotgun
with a 2 round clip, shot and loaded simultaneously.
* The SSG is a high damage, 100% accurate, long distance sniper rifle with a 6
  round clip.
* The combat knife is a high damage, low-high accuracy, short-long distance
weapon, depending on the skill of the thrower. You get 1 knife by default, but
if selected in the menu, you get 10.
* The pistol is a low damage, high accuracy, medium-long distance weapon with a 12
round clip. You get a pistol by default, but if selected in the menu, you get 2
(akimbo pistols). They are less accurate, but shoots twice as fast.
* The grenade covers a short-long distance and does a huge amount of damage. If
someone throws one at you; crouch! It might save your life. The only way to get
a grenade is by picking the bandolier as your item.

The AQ2 items give you various benefits that might benefit you more if they suit
your playing style. If you are using a M3 and going rambo style, you might want
the vest to make you withstand more damage, for example. Most people use either
the vest or the laser sight.

* The kevlar vest reduces the amount of damage taken when hit in the chest. It
prevents you from bleeding and is a must-have item when going close combat.
* The helmet protects you from headshots. You will survive many of them and you
will not bleed from your head. It is seldom used.
* The bandolier gives you a grenade and increases your ammo by 100 percent. However,
it will not give you an extra knife, unless you chose the combat knives as your
primary weapon, in which case you will get 20 throwing knives.
* The stealth slippers make your footsteps silent. If you take fall damage, you
will still be heard, though. Great with the hand cannon or the M3 when you want
to surprise them on the ground.
* The silencer dampens the sound from the MP5, SSG and pistol. You can only hear
the sound if you're next to the shooter. Choose this if you are you're on the roof
and don't want to be found.
* The laser sight increases the accuracy of the M4, MP5 and pistol. You will have
the same accuracy when moving as you would otherwise have when crouching.

3.2 Are there any tactics I should know about?

When you empty your first clip, instead of reloading, just throw the weapon on
the ground (z). This will bring up the pistol faster than switching weapons. While
shooting, walk over your weapon on the ground to pick it up. When you have emptied
your pistol clip, you can run away to reload (r) your primary weapon. This is just
one way of doing it, and you might prefer a different way.

If you are in close range, you can select the knife (3), switch to throwing mode
(mouse2) and throw the knife at your opponent. It is much deadlier than the pistol.
If you have already changed the knife to throwing mode in an earlier round, AQ2 will
remember that, so you will only have to do it once.

When you take damage to an unprotected body part, you will get a bleeding wound. To
remedy this, use a bandage (e). However, if you are in the midst of battle, you
should probably wait. If you have low health (4 hp) you will die before the bandage
saves you. If you fall and break your legs, you will need to bandage right away, as
you will be a sitting duck with that limp.

If you are on the ground and there are no enemies there with you, you should get up
on the rooftop to handle the snipers. The only advantage by staying on the ground is
that you have a better angle for getting headshots. Stay far away from the M3 and
hand cannon enemies. They hurt badly in close combat.

Since headshots always kill your enemies, high accuracy weapons will help you kill
your enemies even when they have the kevlar vest. The MP5 is such a weapon, with a
large clip and no kickback. If you hit your enemy in the head with the MP5 or using
your pistol over long distances, they will have a few seconds to counter your attack
before dying from the bleeding wound. Some of them will throw a knife at you, so try
and not get killed. An SSG shot to the stomach has the same effect as the MP5
headshot.

4. How do I open .pkz files?

The pkz files are simply renamed zip files. That means you can open them using for
example WinRAR or WinZip. Hold the shift button and right click the pkz file,
select "Open with" and pick the archiving program you want to open the file with.
For easier future access, you should check "Always use the selected program to open
this kind of file".
